This will be a fun way to begin the Memorial Day weekend. There will be jumping games and a toy train ride for the children, as well as the usual free tours of the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. We certainly want the running community to turn out, but we hope families will come and participate and enjoy the other activities as well. THE MEMORIAL RACE FOR THE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE will have some special features after the race: 1) A Color Guard representing every branch of service; 2) The national anthem sung by a quintet of veterans and accompanied by a brass ensemble from Sterlington High School; 3) Taps and a moment of silent prayer remembering soldiers who gave their all; and 4) a red, white, and blue balloon release in memoriam of fallen veterans; in honor of living veterans; and in tribute to current active-duty military personnel. Runners will also wear a red, white, or blue paper bracelet bearing the name of a veteran they wish to honor or remember. The awards will occur immediately following these festivities.
